AI-powered customer service should make life easier, but too often, it does the opposite. To cut through the AI hype and prove Zendesk’s technology is actually helpful, we created a series of 3D animated mockumentary-style interviews with four of the worst AI chatbots imaginable.
To land this in the most intriguing way possible, we decided that rather than simply shouting about Zendesk’s AI, we would turn the camera on fictional (yet highly relatable) AI. Each embodied the antithesis of Zendesk’s product differentiators and let them do the talking for us - highlighting how Zendesk gets it right by showing what happens when customer service AI goes very, very wrong.
Viewers meet characters that were built to embody a specific AI failure - from Derek the well-meaning but useless chatbot, MEBO the arrogant know-it-all, Serenit-E the high-maintenance diva and SCR33CH an internet-trained disaster. Created entirely in-house, the campaign combined sharp writing, expressive animation, and motion capture to bring each AI to life. What started as a simple social campaign became a runaway success, earning millions of views and proving that even in a conversation as crowded as AI, creativity still wins.
