Ancient Greeks

When the Auckland War Memorial Museum hosted Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors, and Heroes, a collection of over 170 treasured artefacts from the British Museum,they saw an opportunity to enhance the experience with digital storytelling. We created four projection-mapped animations that brought ancient Greek pottery and sculptures to life, revealing the myths, legends, and daily life of this extraordinary civilisation.

By combining 3D animation, 2D illustration, and carefully placed projections, we transformed amphorae and friezes into animated storytelling canvases. Javelin throwers vaulted across vases, warriors sailed between broken amphora shards in epic battles, and mythical figures emerged from marble friezes.

Each projection was designed to seamlessly interact with the artefacts, creating a painted-on effect that felt authentic to the exhibition. The result was a dynamic and immersive experience that blended historical accuracy with artistic innovation, enriching the way visitors engaged with the collection.

Highlights – Over 85,000 visitors engaged with the exhibition, experiencing history in motion and proving how digital storytelling can deepen cultural connections.
