Google’s EMEA Zeitgeist event is one of Google’s most prestigious events.
Each year, they host the world’s most celebrated icons, thinkers, and influencers, inviting them to explore the latest innovations and tech demos. Off the back of the success of the Zeitgeist fireplace the previous year we were asked to deliver another amazing digital experience for the event.

Visualisation art piece
“WHAT?! More people search for Dog Food than Boris Johnson? Hull City are more popular than Manchester United?"
We created a stunning visual representation of the world’s trends — brought to life on a 55 inch touch screen, and built using WebGL. Through interacting with the controller tablet, users were able to control the fluid visual, highlight trend topics, or change the region to see trending topics in different countries — the brighter the liquid burns, the more searches that topic has had.

‘On Trend’ quiz
The second part of the interactive demo allowed event attendees, which included Lewis Hamilton, Brian Cox, and Amal Clooney, to go head-to-head in a real-time trends quiz. Built using websockets and tapping into live Google Trend data, players could try their luck at topping the ‘On Trend’ leaderboard either on the tablet controller, or on their own smartphone via a public URL. The game comprised of quick fire questions across a range of topics, with more points awarded for ‘hot streaks’, a live player feed that updates as players lose lives and tally high scores against one another.
The interactive piece was a popular attraction throughout the day, enjoyed by the incredible influencers attending Zeitgeist. Delivering the key aspects of Google Trends in such a engaging, innovative and competitive way made for an fantastic challenge and hugely successful result.
