ABOUT
Scaling Mont Blanc is a monumental feat. We embraced the challenge, partnering with Google to craft a revolutionary VR experience that democratised access to this iconic peak, pushing the boundaries of what was achievable within a web browser while bringing the mountain to the masses.
Built for Google Cardboard, the experience takes users on a breathtaking journey up Mont Blanc, guided by High Mountain Guide Patrick Gabarrou. Through an intuitive UI inspired by smart ski goggles, climbers can monitor altitude, temperature, and vitals while exploring the mountain’s key routes. Each stage of the ascent is brought to life through stunning 360° panoramas, explorable 3D hotspots, and rich audio-visual storytelling, curated from an extraordinary archive of assets captured directly on the mountain.
Delivering virtual reality at scale within a web browser was a major technical feat. We optimized performance across devices, balancing high-fidelity visuals with a smooth user experience on both Android and iOS. The experience seamlessly integrates multiple layers of interactivity, with 11 explorable scenes and over 50 embedded points of interest. The result is a fully immersive journey that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in mobile VR.
Highlights – A multi-award-winning experience that helped pioneered in-browser WebVR. Making a journey previously exclusive to expert climbers accessible on any smartphone, brought the beauty of Mont Blanc to millions.
